Snow in my boots!

Today Cary and I went on a snow hike on the Mt. Wilson trail from Chantry Flats.  We hiked up to about 4500 feet and then finally hit snow.  There was about 1 to 2 feet.  It was a beautiful sunny day.  Snow was melting off the trees onto the trail.  Luckily we didn't get nailed by any big clumps of snow.  Once we got to the fire road we could see that the tower had frozen over and pieces of ice were melting off and crashing some hundreds of feet below creating very loud booms.  It was quite a spectacular sight to see.  The hike was great for gaining snow travel experience in which I have little.  Cary and I are doing the same hike next week with our WTC class, however, I think all the snow will be melted by then.  Overall it was  a nice conditioning hike, we did about 12 miles round trip.

Very cool - literally! Amazing you can have snow/winter conditions so close to L.A. Hope your feet have dried out :-)
